As a sequel to my favourite videogame of all time – The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past – A Link Between Worlds certainly had a lot to live up to if it was going to meet expectations. Luckily however, it was able to do this, and subsequently convinced a lot of people (including me) of picking up a 3DS. Since then however, all signs point towards the 3DS as having run out of steam, as the latest Nintendo Direct suggests that the handheld has nothing more to look forward to apart from uninspired remakes and sequels.
Whilst that might be true now, in late 2013 however, the 3DS had a bit more going for it as Nintendo unleashed one of the most revered games in recent memory. So much so that Arthur Gies (of Polygon) heralded The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds as being one of his favourite games of 2013, as well as the best Zelda game of the last 20 years.
Given how expensive Nintendo games usually are, and considering The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds inherent quality, I’d recommend picking up the game if you haven’t done so already. Just be warned however that you’ll be getting the ‘Nintendo Selects’ version, so the packaging will look slightly tackier in comparison to what the normal box looks like.
