Why do we do the things we do? What is it that motivates us, and how does this configure within the context of a company?
If a company is nothing more than a collection of its people, it's important to determine as to what factors bring them together. This is usually signified by the company's overarching (common) goal and is set by the Founder who determines its precedent and collective vision. The Founder then undertakes the process of hiring all the key people and together they go about enacting that vision by making it a reality. This answers the pressing question as to why a set of people do what they do, by which the Founder establishes the basis of the company's Mission Statement.
By tangentially taking into account what Robert Greene stated in his seminal book The 48 Laws Of Power, one method by which the Founder can recruit key personnel is by appealing to their self-interest. This ties in with peoples' primary motivational drives, and Sigmund Freud (as part of his over-arching Drive Theory) stated that people are motivated by two drives - the drive for sex and the drive to be great.
