Sometimes referred to as the French equivalent of Limited Run Games, Red Art Games was founded in 2018 and has been quietly making a name for itself as a physical publisher of digital only games. With an emphasis of wanting to serve the physical collector market, in 2021 however, the company decided to expand its portfolio of services by publishing digital only games on Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Microsoft Store. And with a back-catalogue spanning over 350 videogame titles (across all platforms) the company has no intention of stopping anytime soon.
I spoke with Romain Mahut (Business Development & Communications Manager, Red Art Games) in order to find out a little bit more about his parent company, and also wanted to get his perspective on how Red Art Games distinguishes itself from all the other “limited run” style print companies out there. At the same time, I wanted to get his thoughts on what opportunities and threats the company faces in an increasingly digital marketplace, how a new company can gain market share in an increasingly congested business sector, and what the future holds for Red Art Games going forward.
